Beijing United Family Hospital: Appointments and Insurance

Beijing United Family Hospital is the main hospital of United Family Healthcare, a private group that opened its Beijing hospital in 1997 and runs several other hospitals and clinics in the city. Its own pages name expatriates and international residents among the patients it serves. This profile covers the hospital at 2 Jiangtai Road, and the two things most worth checking before a visit from abroad: which location you are booked into, and how your insurance is treated.

The hospital and the rest of the network

United Family's Beijing website covers many locations under one brand. Its appointment page lists separate phone numbers for the main hospital, the rehabilitation hospital, the New Hope oncology center and clinics in Liangma, Shunyi, Wudaokou and the Financial Street area, plus a home health service. This profile is only about Beijing United Family Hospital at 2 Jiangtai Road, Chaoyang District, in the Lido area. A clinic appointment is not an appointment at the hospital, and a clinic may not offer the tests, procedures or admission you need.

The WeChat service account (search "UFH4008919191") is listed as answering from 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Sunday. From abroad, the landline +86 10 5927 7000 or email is the more predictable starting point.

Direct billing: the "primary insurance" condition

The hospital's insurance page says United Family accepts plans from most major insurers and bills them per visit, with you paying the co-payment or deductible your plan sets. It then adds one line that is easy to miss: direct billing is accepted only for primary insurance coverage.

If you hold two policies, for example an employer plan and a travel policy, only the one that pays first can be billed directly. A secondary policy will normally mean paying and claiming afterwards. Ask your insurer which policy is primary for this visit before you rely on direct billing. A United Family page about its cross-border service adds that insurance arrangements vary by location, so check that the hospital itself, not only the brand, is in your insurer's network.

The same insurance page gives general advice on choosing a plan that is worth reading before a planned trip: annual limits range from under US$100,000 to several million dollars, and the hospital recommends cover of US$1 million or more; individual plans often exclude pre-existing conditions; and maternity cover often carries a waiting period, typically 12 months. Check your own policy wording on each point, because a direct-billing arrangement does not override an exclusion.

Self-pay patients and co-payments can be paid by cheque, debit card or credit card, according to the insurance page. Our payment guide explains card limits and mobile wallets for visitors.

The 24-hour emergency line

The main hospital's location page lists 24-hour emergency services and gives the 24-hour emergency hotline as +86 10 5927 7120. The German embassy's Beijing list (June 2026) gives the same number. In a life-threatening emergency anywhere in Beijing, 120 is the ambulance number; the hotline is for reaching this hospital's emergency department.

Languages at United Family

United Family describes a multilingual medical team. Its cross-border service page claims 24-hour multilingual support in Chinese, English and more than ten other languages, with telephone interpreting. The German embassy list notes that English service is available. None of this tells you which language your own doctor will use; if it is not English or Chinese, ask whether an interpreter will join the consultation.

Finding the Jiangtai Road hospital

The location page gives directions from Jiangtai station on Metro Line 14: leave by exit A or B and walk north-west along Jiangtai Road. The address in Chinese is 北京市朝阳区将台路2号. The Beijing guide covers airports and getting around the city.

Prices and what we do not repeat

The Beijing website has a pricing section and promotional packages. We do not copy hospital prices or package offers onto this site, and we do not repeat the hospital's descriptions of its equipment or accreditations as reasons to choose it; our editorial policy explains why. For a visit from abroad, ask for an itemised written estimate for your own care. Our costs page shows the sourced figures we do publish.
