The hospital and the clinic network are different places
"Jiahui" is also the name of a group of outpatient clinics. Besides the hospital, the group's website lists Jiahui Health sites in Yangpu and Jing'an in Shanghai, and in Suzhou, Kunshan, Shenzhen Futian and Hong Kong. This profile is only about the hospital at 689 Guiping Road, Xuhui District. A clinic can be a convenient place for a consultation, but it is not where a hospital admission, surgery or a full inpatient work-up would take place. When you are given an appointment, check the address on it.
The hospital's location page says it opened in 2017, lists more than 35 specialties including family medicine, general surgery and 24/7 emergency care, and gives its opening hours as 24 hours, Monday to Sunday. Its international page describes it as a 500-bed hospital.
Reaching the International Office
| Channel | Details published by the hospital | Note |

| Mobile | +86 137 0197 2749 | Listed with the landline; purpose not explained |

Email is the easiest channel to keep a written record of what was promised. Do not send medical records until you know who will receive them; ask the office which secure channel it uses.
What the office says it handles
The International Patients Services page lists: answers to medical questions before arrival, cost estimates for the course of treatment, professional interpreters, a teleconsultation with a doctor before you travel, a coordinating physician, preparation of medical reports, airport pick-up, help with visa extension if treatment runs long, help with international insurance and third-party payment, liaison with your embassy, and advice on accommodation for family members.
Read these as services the office says it can arrange. The page does not say which of them are charged separately, how long a teleconsultation takes, or whether the doctor you consult remotely is the one who treats you. Visa help is help with paperwork; whether an extension is granted is decided by the immigration authorities, not the hospital. For the visa you need in the first place, see our visa guide.
Asking for an estimate
The hospital invites international patients to request a detailed fee estimate through its contact form. We could not read a price list on the hospital's English pricing page when we checked: the page loaded without readable content. That makes the written estimate the only figure you will have before you travel, so ask for it to be itemised:
- consultation fees, including any teleconsultation before travel;
- tests and imaging, listed one by one;
- any procedure, with anaesthesia, implants or devices, and the operating room shown separately;
- room charges per night and the number of nights assumed;
- medicines to take home and follow-up visits;
- interpreter, airport transfer and other International Office services, if charged.
Ask what happens to the bill if the plan changes after examination. Our treatments overview describes the kinds of planned care we cover, and our costs page explains why we only publish prices we can trace to a source, and why none here comes from Jiahui.
Paying: insurance and self-pay
The hospital's insurance page says it bills "most major insurance companies" directly and that its partner list is updated constantly, but we did not find a readable list. Ask the International Office and your insurer separately whether your plan is billed directly, and whether a guarantee letter is needed for an admission.
The same page says the hospital is a designated provider for China's social medical insurance and for Huhuibao, a Shanghai supplementary scheme. Those only help if you are enrolled in China's social insurance or are a Shanghai resident; a visitor from abroad will normally pay through private insurance or out of pocket. For card limits and mobile payment as a visitor, see our payment guide.
Arriving for care
Bring your passport, which hospitals in China use to register foreign patients, along with the written estimate, any insurance guarantee letter and the documents the International Office asked for. The visit preparation guide has a full checklist. The hospital is in Xuhui District; our Shanghai guide covers airports and getting around.

The hospital's international page carries a footer date of 1 June 2021, so some of its service list may be older than it looks. Jiahui has not reviewed this page. We do not rank or recommend hospitals (see our editorial policy), and how we verify explains our checks. Shanghai also has public hospitals with international departments; they are listed in the Shanghai guide, and the city comparison covers Beijing and Shenzhen. All profiles are on the hospital index; for our own fees, see pricing, and for who runs this site, about us.
