Sun Yat-sen University Eighth Hospital, Futian: Booking Rules
The Eighth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is a public Grade 3A hospital on Shennan Middle Road in Futian, central Shenzhen. The city government's hospital page sets out booking rules that apply to every patient, including a short payment deadline. In January 2026 the hospital opened an International Medical Center, described on its own site. This profile covers both.

Booking rules that catch visitors out
The Shenzhen government's page for the hospital lists the rules for appointments:
- Real-name registration. Online and in-person bookings need the patient's own identity document. A passport is accepted, as are mainland and Hong Kong and Macao travel permits.
- Pay within 30 minutes. After booking, the registration fee must be paid within 30 minutes or the slot is cancelled automatically. An unpaid booking that is not cancelled counts as a missed appointment, and three of these stop you from booking through the system.
- Cancel ahead. If you cannot attend, cancel through the hospital's WeChat account or at a window; the fee is refunded to the original payment method.
- Changes by text message. If a specialist changes clinic times, the hospital says it informs patients by SMS, which assumes a phone that can receive Chinese messages.
Thirty minutes is very little time if you are booking from abroad with a card or wallet that has not been set up for Chinese payments. Our payment guide explains how visitors pay; set this up before you try to book.
Where to book
The same page lists phone booking on +86 755 8398 6136 or 400 119 1160; online through the hospital website or 91160.com; on site with help from the patient service center; WeChat through the hospital's account, "Health 160" or "Health Shenzhen"; the Health 160 and Health Shenzhen apps; and follow-up bookings made by the doctor at the end of a visit. If you are already in Shenzhen, staff at the patient service center on site can make a booking with you in person. For problems with a booking, the hospital asks you to call 8398 6136 during working hours (8:00 to 17:00). Shenzhen's government English portal (October 2024) gives the same number as the hospital's appointment line. The general number 0755-8398 2222 on the government page is listed for supervision and complaints, not for the international center.
The International Medical Center, opened 2026
The hospital's page for its International Medical Center (国际诊疗中心) says it opened on 27 January 2026 for foreign nationals living in mainland China, overseas Chinese, people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and local patients. It gives these details:
| Item | As described by the hospital |
|---|---|
| Outpatient clinic | Building 4, 8th floor |
| Ward | Building 4, 14th floor, with single suites |
| On the same floor | Booking, consultation, tests and payment; ultrasound, eye, dental, gynaecology and physiotherapy rooms |
| Signs and desks | Chinese and English signage, an information desk and a commercial insurance service area |
| Insurance | Direct billing with "dozens" of domestic and international insurers; no list published |
| Remote services | Online follow-up visits, report reading, medicine delivery and remote consultation |
The page names patients living in mainland China, not visitors travelling for care. It does not give a phone number or email for the center, or say how a patient abroad should book it. Ask the hospital which route reaches the center before you rely on the general booking channels.
The center's page also describes research work and access to some drugs and devices approved in Hong Kong and Macao under a Greater Bay Area policy. We do not cover treatments on this site; discuss any treatment with your own doctor, and see our editorial policy.
Admission
The government page describes admission in steps: a doctor issues an admission certificate; you pay a deposit at the inpatient cashier; you register at the admissions office with the certificate and outpatient record; and nurses assign a bed. Deposit exemptions listed on the page are for local social insurance schemes, so a visitor paying privately should expect to pay the deposit. During a stay, the page says not to take your own medicines or see outside doctors without permission, and not to leave the hospital.
Finding the hospital
The hospital is at 3025 Shennan Middle Road, Futian District, near Shenzhen Central Park. The government page lists metro access from Line 11 (福星站, exit A) and from Huaqiang Road station on Line 1 (exit C), plus several bus stops. The same page mentions the hospital's emergency department in its list of awards, but does not describe emergency arrangements for international patients. In an emergency, call 120. Our Shenzhen guide covers arriving from Hong Kong.
