Sun Yat-sen University Seventh Hospital, Shenzhen: IMC

The Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is a public hospital in Guangming District, in the north-west of Shenzhen. It is not one of the university's Guangzhou hospitals, and it is a long way from central Shenzhen. Its International Medical Center publishes its own phone lines and hours, which are narrower than the hospital's general booking line.

Two sets of hours: the center and the hospital

The International Medical Center (IMC) page and the hospital footer list different lines with different hours. The difference matters if you are calling from another time zone.

The hospital's 8:00 to 22:00 booking line is for its general outpatient clinics; it does not mean the IMC answers in the evening or at weekends. The footer notes that call hours exclude public holidays. The hospital lists outpatient clinic hours of 8:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 17:30 every day, and 24-hour emergency care.

What the IMC says it offers, and what that means for you

The IMC describes outpatient and inpatient care with nursing and rehabilitation, and names patients from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, foreign nationals, VIP patients and medical cover for international conferences as the people it serves. It lists a fast-track service, a dedicated staff member accompanying patients, commercial insurance direct billing, language services and dedicated parking.

The page also uses promotional lines such as booking "at any time" with your choice of specialist, and "no queuing". Read these as descriptions of the service model, not guarantees: the page itself names phone booking as the route, and a specialist's availability still depends on that doctor's schedule. Ask for the doctor's name and time in writing.

The page says language services are available and refers to multilingual service, but does not say which languages. If you need English, ask during your first call whether the doctor or an interpreter will cover the consultation.

Insurance: cashless only within your cover

The IMC says it has direct-billing agreements with several Chinese and international insurers and third-party administrators. Its fuller explanation adds the condition: with a high-end medical insurance card or a guarantee letter, you may not need to pay all or part of the bill on the spot, depending on what your policy covers, and the hospital settles with the insurer. The page does not list the insurers. Before travelling, check with your insurer that this hospital is part of its network, and whether a guarantee letter must reach the hospital first. Some international plans issue a card that a partner hospital can bill against at each visit; others work only through a letter issued case by case. Your insurer can tell you which applies to you.

For self-pay visits, see our payment guide on visitor cards and wallets. We publish only traceable prices, collected on the costs page; none here come from this hospital.

Getting to Guangming

The hospital is at 628 Zhenyuan Road, Xinhu Subdistrict, Guangming District. Its page gives these routes:

  • Metro: Line 6 branch to Zhenmei station, exit A1.
  • Bus: stops named after the hospital, served by routes including 325, B901, M356, M411, M490 and M596.
  • High-speed rail: Guangmingcheng station, then bus or taxi.

Guangming is far from Futian and from the Hong Kong border crossings, so allow for a long journey if you stay elsewhere. Our Shenzhen guide explains arriving from Hong Kong, and the visa guide covers mainland entry.

Sun Yat-sen University has several hospitals

Sun Yat-sen University's affiliated hospitals carry similar names and numbers. The First Affiliated Hospital is in Guangzhou; the Eighth Affiliated Hospital is in Futian, Shenzhen. This profile is only about the Seventh, in Guangming. When you search for contact details, check that the page is from www.sysush.com or names Guangming District.

Questions for the IMC

Call within the IMC's weekday hours, China time.

  1. Can the International Medical Center book me with [specialty] on [dates], and with which doctor?
  2. Which language will the consultation be in? Is an interpreter available?
  3. Is [insurer] billed directly here, for outpatient visits and admissions?
  4. Do I need a guarantee letter before the visit?
  5. Before I fly, could you put the expected costs in writing?
  6. Is there an email address for written confirmation and for sending reports?

Emergency care in Guangming

The hospital lists emergency care around the clock, every day. The International Medical Center's own phone hours are weekday office hours only, so outside them an urgent problem goes to the hospital's emergency department, not the center. For an ambulance in Shenzhen, call 120. If you are staying far from Guangming, the nearest emergency department may be a different hospital.

Calling from another time zone

All hours on this page are China Standard Time (UTC+8), which does not change in summer. The center's two lunchtime-split windows on working days are short when converted to European or American hours: a call from London has to be made between about midnight and 9:30 in the morning in British winter time. If phoning is impractical, ask on your first call for an email address or another written channel.
