University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital: Booking and IMC

The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital is a public hospital in Shenzhen, built by the city government, with management practices introduced by the University of Hong Kong. A patient from abroad can use either its general outpatient clinics or its International Medical Center, and the two are booked through different lines. This page explains the difference using the hospital's own published details.

General clinics or the International Medical Center

The hospital's English booking guide, dated 11 March 2026, separates two services:

The guide says online booking covers first and follow-up general outpatient visits, but not every department offers it. Health assessments have their own line: +86 755 8691 3333 extension 6073, weekdays 12:00 to 17:00, according to the IMC page. Our treatments page covers check-ups in general terms.

We have not compared fees between the two services, and the hospital does not publish them side by side. Ask each line what a first consultation costs before you choose.

Booking in person does not mean seeing a doctor that day

Self-service kiosks on floors one to four of the outpatient building take bookings from 7:30 to 18:30, seven days a week, and the cashier counters from 8:00 to 17:30 (except for obstetrics). The guide adds a plain warning: a patient who books on site might not see a doctor the same day. If you have a short trip, book before you arrive.

The Hong Kong number is a phone line

IMC publishes a Hong Kong number for callers there. It is a contact channel for the Shenzhen hospital. It does not mean you can be seen in Hong Kong, and it does not change what you need to cross the border. Mainland China entry rules apply when you travel from Hong Kong to Futian; read our visa guide, which sets out the entry routes that fit a hospital visit. The hospital also runs a separate hotline (+86 755 8691 3101) for a Hong Kong government support scheme for Hospital Authority patients living in Guangdong; that scheme is for Hong Kong residents, not for visitors from abroad.

Insurance: card or guarantee letter

The IMC insurance page is more specific than most hospital pages about how each insurer pays. It lists companies by the document you need:

  • Direct-billing card for outpatient visits, guarantee letter for admission: for example Ping An Health, Generali China, AIA Life, CPIC Health, Fosun United Health, ICBC-AXA Life, Taikang Life, China Health Connect (商保通), Zhibao and JD Allianz.
  • Guarantee letter only: assistance companies and brokers, for example Emergency Assistance Japan, International SOS, AXA Travel Assistance, Huatai Insurance Brokers and others.

So with some insurers you can show a card at an outpatient visit; with others, nothing is billed directly until a guarantee letter reaches the hospital. The page tells patients to contact their insurer first and says coverage depends on the individual policy. The page also names partnerships with AIA and AXA in Hong Kong. For paying without insurance, see our payment guide.

Finding the hospital

The hospital is on Haiyuan 1st Road in Futian District, at the junction of Baishi Road and Qiaocheng East Road, according to Shenzhen's government English portal (October 2024), which lists its appointment line as +86 755 8691 3333. IMC gives the same site in its address. The hospital's English pages list the same 3333 number for enquiries and +86 755 8691 3119 for feedback. Our Shenzhen guide covers arriving via Hong Kong.

Emergency care

The hospital lists a Department of Accident and Emergency among its clinical services. Its English page for that department did not show any content when we checked, so we have not confirmed its hours or whether IMC has a separate emergency service. Shenzhen's government portal tells foreigners to call 120 for an ambulance.

The hospital says it joined Guangdong's first group of international medical services pilot hospitals in March 2026. HKU-SZH itself has not checked anything here. Our editorial policy explains why hospitals are never ranked on this site, and how we verify describes our checks. About us says who runs the site, and our coordination fees are on the pricing page.
