Hangzhou First People's Hospital: International Patients
Hangzhou First People's Hospital, founded in 1923 and now affiliated with Westlake University School of Medicine, is a large municipal hospital whose contact address is on Huansha Road. Its English site invites international patients to book through an online form. For someone still abroad, that form is the problem, and the hospital's email address is the way round it.

The form expects you to live in China
Requests need three days' notice, after which the International Medicine Department is meant to call or write to confirm. The form will not submit without the patient's name, sex and birthday, nationality and passport number, a permanent address in China, a mobile number (set under a heading that reads "Contact Number (in China)"), an email address, a date and a department. Naming a doctor is optional.
A visitor will usually have neither a permanent Chinese address nor a Chinese mobile number. Do not fill in a made-up address or someone else's number to get past the form: the hospital may use them to contact you, and a booking made on false details can cause problems at registration. Use one of the other routes below and ask how they want an overseas patient to proceed.
Routes that work from abroad
| Route | Details published | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| [email protected], on the "Patients & Visitors" and "Contact" pages | The practical first step from another time zone; a public mail-service address, but listed on the hospital's own pages | |
| Phone | +86 571 5600 7402; 8:00 to 12:00, then 13:30 to 17:00, on weekdays | Called the "service hotline" on every page |
| Second number | +86 571 8791 4773 | Listed on the contact page without a purpose |
| Online form | en.hz-hospital.com/appointment | Requires a China address and mobile number |
One oddity: on the English home page, the hotline is displayed as 0571-5600 7402, but the clickable link behind it dials a different number, 0571-5607 0677. If you tap the number on a phone, check what your phone is about to call. We list the number as it is displayed, since it appears that way on every page.
Where to go
The contact page gives the hospital's address as 261 Huansha Road. The hospital describes itself as having nine hospital districts, but its English pages do not say which site, building or floor the International Medicine Department occupies. Ask for this in writing when your appointment is confirmed, because "First People's Hospital" will mean the Huansha Road site to most drivers.
A billing list that is not there
The appointment page tells patients to check with their insurer "or our direct billing company list", but we found no such list on the English site. Until the hospital names the companies it bills, assume you will pay yourself and claim back. The payment guide covers what foreign patients can use to pay, and our costs page lists the price data we have sourced.
Languages are not stated
The English pages say nothing about the languages spoken by doctors or staff, or about interpreters. The existence of an English booking form and an international department suggests English is catered for, but it is not stated. Ask by email, and if you need another language, ask whether the hospital can arrange it or whether you should bring someone.
On an embassy list
Hangzhou First People's Hospital also appears on a list of approved hospitals that the Belgian embassy issued in May 2026, with a phone number that differs from the hotline on the hospital's English pages. The list seems to concern medical examinations, not general care, so it does not change the booking routes above.
If you are already in Hangzhou
Being in the city opens more options. A hotel can phone the hotline for you during its hours, which fall in the early morning from Europe and overnight from the Americas. With a Chinese phone number the online form becomes usable, provided the hospital accepts a hotel address as the "permanent" one; ask before assuming it does. Zhejiang's 12345 public-service line takes calls in English on working days, which may help with directions or general questions, though it is not a medical service.
Large Chinese hospitals often run several sites under one name, and this one says it has nine. A booking confirmation that names only the hospital is not enough; it should name the site.
Urgent problems
Use 120, not the booking form, in an emergency: the hospital says the form is for non-urgent visits only.

We have not had this profile confirmed by the hospital. The Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University uses an almost identical form with the same China-address field; the university hospitals, such as FAHZU, handle it differently. The Hangzhou guide compares all six, and the cities page covers other cities. Read the visa guide before you plan the trip and the hospital visit guide for documents to pack. Every profile is on the hospital index; our sourcing is described in the editorial policy and on the verification page; about us introduces the team; and the treatments page, pricing and privacy notice explain the rest of this site.
